"Terminal 1 is very disappointing"

Not Verified | I experienced both Terminal 3 and Terminal 1 at Delhi Airport during this trip. Terminal 3 experience is always good, though slightly clinical, unfortunately Terminal 1 is very disappointing. I understand Terminal 1 is under redevelopment but basics can be taken care of easily. The charging points in most areas do not work. The security screening process is a nightmare and you could see the staff struggling (no blame on them, they were in a tough situation). The number of F&B outlets is very limited and extremely expensive. Considering it is mostly LCCs who use this terminal, it is often important to refuel before the flight which becomes difficult. Lack of vending machines means that the few outlets who serve this terminal can charge any amount they please for drinks. I would recommend you actively avoid flights departing from this terminal till the renovation is completed.

We appreciate your understanding of Terminal-1 undergoing redevelopment currently and your observations on the issues faced. We have shared your feedback with concerned teams to review and take necessary actions. Our on ground team is very prompt in taking immediate action to rectify any issues that get notified. However, they have confirmed to increase the monitoring of the charging stations. Further, our spacious food court located after clearing security check offers variety of F&B outlets that cater to diverse cuisine preferences of our passengers. In our endeavour to enhance security measures, ATRS (Automatic Tray Retrieval System), state-of-the-art CTX (Computer Tomography X-ray) machines along with other mechanisms will be rendered once the renovated Terminal becomes operational. This upgrade aims to address existing space constraints as well. As Terminal 1 is gradually opening in phases, the installation of vending machines is underway and will soon be available for passengers. We want to assure you that, as the Airport Operator, we are dedicated to providing an expanded facility with a world-class passenger experience upon the completion of this project. Any inconvenience you experienced is deeply regretted, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during this transformative phase.

"This was a terrible ordeal"

Trip Verified | We transited from Heathrow to Kathmandu via Delhi and returned from Kathmandu to Heathrow via the same, via Delhi’s T3. On both occasions our ‘transfer/transit experience’ was completely unacceptable, bordering on downright disgraceful. We expected the transfer to be similar to what we’d experienced at other major airports in the past, (like Heathrow, Bogotá, Lisbon), however, Delhi was an exception. On arrival, we found ourselves being ‘held’ in the ‘Transfer Area’ - were we had to wait for 2-3 hours (each way) for our tickets to be stamped. We were informed this could only be done by ‘Airline staff’ and we’d have to wait for ‘someone to come’. Hundreds of other passengers from other aircraft founds themselves having the same experience, some having waited for 5 or more hours. There isn’t ample seating, no shops, restraints or vending machines, just an area that looked and felt like an Emergency Department hospital waiting room with confused, anxious, tired and upset people waiting for ‘someone’ to stamp their boarding pass. The whole operation lacked any order, with staff behind kiosks saying ‘you have to wait’. After hours of waiting, and constantly asking, our boarding passes were initialled by the same man who’d told us to ‘wait’ and we then proceeded through a security area that seemed that it hadn’t changed in 20 years. There was no automated belt/carousel to place items on ( we all shudder our trays along a table) and ever passenger was asked to stand on an elevated wooden box (in front on 100’s waiting) whilst an ignorant security guard waved a wand, and abruptly stamped the boarding card. I can compare this 2-3 hour ‘ordeal’ to transiting at Heathrow - one of the worlds busiest airports - which took 20 minutes. If you are simply using Delhi to transit/transfer, please consider another airport. I am writing to our travel agent to ask they consider my experience, and others who’ve also documented the same on this site, so they might instead re-route their customers via another hub. This was a terrible ordeal, I can’t imagine what this would be like if we were travelling with children or elderly. Please I ask you to strongly consider another airport.

This to apprise you that, mostly transit passengers carry the boarding pass for their onward flight which is issued by the Airline at the origin airport itself. As a practice, airline staff or their Ground handling Agency (GHA) staff is usually available at the transfer desk in the transfer area to guide passengers. As per Airline guidelines, the transfer counter for checking in passengers travelling on international flights opens 4 hours prior to the scheduled departure time and boarding passes are issued at that time. This matter may be taken up directly with the airline you had travelled with. Further, passengers who have enough time before their next flight connection from Delhi Airport can choose from food options at the transfer area. Comfortable seating along with recliner chairs are also there for passengers to relax while waiting for their next flight. Alternatively, passengers having longer duration between their connecting flights have the option to exit the terminal building provided they are in possession of a transit VISA and avail various facilities such as lounges, transit hotel and wide array of F&B outlets at Delhi Airport. "Very limited facilities"

Trip Verified | Worst airport to be in. No one assisted for transfers. People are horrible for not helping travelers find their way. They are even mad and rude to answer questions. Very limited facilities for resting and charging phones. To connect to wifi they have to get your passport details from a kiosk, how troublesome especially the queue for it.

For Internet usage at Delhi Airport, passenger identification details are required as it is a regulatory requirement by Indian Government and hence passport details would have been asked. We also conduct periodic behavioural trainings and constant monitoring of the Airport staff to ensure they project helpful and courteous attitude while dealing with our esteemed passengers. Rest assured, passenger experience is paramount at Delhi Airport and we wish to serve you better in the future.

"Avoid like a plague"

Not Verified | It’s unclear why but the airport demands you would have a check-in boarding pass from a kiosk. As a light traveller, I only get online check-in boarding pass and copies of it (just in case I lose my phone). Well, apparently it’s not enough! (And the only thing they do is stamp it. You can literally stamp any paper). So I got to wait in the airport for 14 hours with no shops nor drinks. Self check-in is unavailable (unless some specific airline) measure that against any European airport, and you realise how horrible was experience here. Staff are super rude in CISF and immigration (I met 2 very kind CISF guards in the departure area only). The rest were talking in raised voices, throwing passport around. I hate this airport with every fibre in me. Avoid like a plague and choose other transit/departure destination.

We would like to inform you that the transfer desk at the International to International (I to I) transfer area are manned by the airline staff or by their Ground handling Agency (GHA). The boarding pass for onward flight connection is normally provided by the respective Airline/GHA staff. Passengers who have enough time before their next flight connection from Delhi Airport can explore various food outlets in the I to I transfer area. There are adequate options available for passengers to relax while waiting for their next flight. We would also like to your apprise you that our Training Academy conducts periodic behavioural trainings and constant monitoring of the Airport staff. Rest assured, passenger experience is paramount at Delhi Airport and we wish to serve you better in the future.

"Delhi airport has improved a lot"

Not Verified | Delhi airport has improved a lot from what it was a couple of years ago. Entry through departure gates was really quick and after check in, immigration check was quick too with all counters working. Security check had reasonable queue as expected and once you are thru', it's an easy ride with many good shops and eating places. The airport is very well maintained with proper signage and plenty of greenery. Thanks to the maintenance team and all staff for a remarkable experience.

"Rude immigration staff"

Trip Verified | Rude immigration staff who throw the passport at travellers after stamping. Non existent crowd control, unclean restrooms (men). Will definitely avoid this airport if I have the option. Not worthy of being called an international airport.

"a living hell for old people"

Trip Verified | Easily one of the worst airports in the world. Landed at Terminal 3 by Vistara Airlines from Singapore. My wife and I are in our 70s but buggies were just not available because they are appropriated by bureaucrats and VIPs. We had to walk more than a kilometre to reach immigration. Even thereafter, even though exhausted, we could not meet the car at the exit gate but had to drag our heavy luggage another kilometre from Gate 8 to the multi level car park at level 2 and on reaching there discovered that the escalator was not functioning. Greed, red tape, officiousness and apathy have reduced the airport to abject inefficiency and a living hell for old people.

"long queue for entry and security"

Trip Verified | T1 domestic terminal of Delhi airport away from T2 and T3. If arriving at other terminal and have next flight from T1 can avail free shuttle bus available 24x7. T1 is currently going through renovations (actually a bigger terminal is being built at the same place) so during peak hours may have to experience long queue for entry and security. My flight was early morning so didn’t experience any during mid night. It has all amenity/facilities which passengers needs, toilets, seating, food options, lounge, wifi and shopping options.

"my experience was very bad2

Trip Verified | In recent days Delhi terminal 3 has become a mess and my experience was very bad. I had an early morning flight and I was at airport around 3 am. There was long queue for entering the terminal, I had installed Digiyatra and updated my boarding pass so that I can use dedicated entry and security for digiyatra holders but my bad luck there was some problem and no one was there to assist for Digiyatra. After multiple unsuccessful attempts I join the regular queue and took 20 min just to enter the terminal, I was travelling with only hand baggage so saved 30-40 min otherwise could have easily took for check in. Security queue waslong and slow moving, took 40 min plus for security. Overall very bad experience, unless situation improves in near future I would avoid Delhi Terminal 3.

At the outset, we would like to inform you that the security related activities at Delhi Airport is managed and controlled by the Central Industrial Security Force – CISF, as constituted and maintained by the Central Govt. Further, we would like to state that as an Airport operator we have taken various measures mentioned below to ensure smooth operations and to provide a seamless travel experience to our passengers: a. Two extra entry points were made functional at the departure forecourt area. b. Additional manpower deployed at entry point and security check point to expedite passenger movement through regular monitoring, ensuring equal distribution and segregation of passengers. c. Positioned 5 security scanning machines (XBIS) at Domestic as well as International Security Hold Area. d. Installed dedicated Digiyatra lanes for faster processing & passenger movement. e. Installed XOVIS Screens at various locations to display waiting time to passengers so that they can to move to short queues.
